The Story

Watch as the colour changing lamp creates a tornado-like vortex display. Switch the Science Museum Tornado Lamp on and see colourful LEDs illuminate a bubbling whirlpool. Housed in a contemporary lamp shape for modern home décor.

Part of the Science Museum innovative lighting range.

---Full Product Description---

The science behind it: tornadoes and whirlpools are similar phenomena. The illuminated whirlpool in the liquid-filled lamp provides a striking visual demonstration of a vortex's rotating motion.

A whirlpool forms when currents of water moving in two different directions come into contact and are forced to turn and swirl around one another. If they’re strong enough, they may begin to spiral downward which forms a vortex, creating a space in the centre of the whirlpool. A tornado forms when fast winds moving in opposite directions create a vortex, and the spin rate increases until the vortex is stretched to the ground.
