A black and white pigment print photograph, entitled 'May Day Celebrations' by Tony Ray-Jones, taken c. 1967. Tony Ray-Jones (1941-1972) created most of his images of the British at work and leisure between 1966-1969. He found inspiration in two related sides of life, holidaying at the seaside and old customs and traditions, both of which presented the opportunity for people to interact with each other and their environment. His work commented on the English way of life, with a mixture of sadness and humour, revealing the eccentricity of the English in their leisure time.Digital image for exhibition quality print taken from a scan of the original Tony Ray-Jones negative.
